Marble possesses a presence all its own.

One of the softer stones, marble requires added care and attention on the part of its owners. However, once it’s in place as a decorative surface and making its one-of-a-kind statement, the reactions from your friends and family who can’t take their eyes off of it should be reason enough to make a person realize why they chose marble.

It’s ironic in a way. The swirls and rich combination of colors in slabs of marble are usually due to the presence of impurities like sand, clay or iron oxides early in the formation of that marble, millions of years ago.

In our opinion, sometimes impurity is a beautiful thing. Stop by our showroom and see for yourself.

Keeping marble distinctive and striking

With its array of colors and patterns, it’s easy to gaze at a piece of polished, finished marble. As a stone, marble is softer than granite. However, the denser marbles can safely be used as kitchen countertops, and their popularity is growing. With their exclusive, elegant appearance, many people prefer to have the color that they want—even if extra care and maintenance is needed.

And many don’t think that different stones require different care, but in reality, marble demands its own type of attention. It’s a metamorphic rock and contains calcium carbonate, which reacts to acids. Many cleaning agents contain different types of acids, which are put to use removing stains and blemishes.

In other words, DO NOT use acidic cleaners on your marble surfaces.

(One thing we never like hearing about is when a piece of marble is damaged from improper care.)

Another point related to this is that you may want to think twice if you’re considering marble for your kitchen countertops. The acidity of certain foods like citrus fruits or vinegar can damage your marble just like an acidic cleaning agent would.

We believe in taking a moment to talk about the care of marble because its natural swirls and ripples of color and veins of differing patterns are usually reason enough to choose marble. And obscuring or permanently damaging these patterns would be a shame.
